"Adler von Krautsand" - Sailing ship
A traditional ship
he MV "Rudolf" was laid on keel at Hamburg shipyard Albert Bonne in 1951 as a replacement for the steam launch "Gaffky". She was the cruise ship of the Hamburg Institute for Environment and Hygiene. The port doctor in charge also used the barge as a quarantine ship. It enabled him to visit incoming and outgoing ships that had not yet had land contact and, if necessary, to provide assistance. In the event of accidents or illness on board, the port doctor could be called in at any time. Today there are other possibilities for the harbour doctor to visit the patients, thus the barge was taken out of service after 25 years.
A Dutch doctor saved the barge from being scrapped after it was overrun by a freighter on the Elbe near Teufelsbruck and lay on the ground. He transferred her to Holland and renovated her from scratch until the 2010 acquisition of the present owner of Barkasse, who brought her back to Germany, where she now belongs to the fleet of active museum ships in Vegesacker Museumshafen.
